We live in a very cheer-up, chin-up, think-positive culture. We are often taught that positivity is the antidote to negativity (which it isn’t). Even the personal development world can perpetuate this compulsion with “positive affirmations” and the like. But there is a cost to all this forced cheerfulness.
How about being real and finding some bone fide joy instead?!
More often than not, positivity conceals what we are really feeling, even to ourselves. Fortunately, when this is the case something happens to rattle our positive cages. This talk is about:
- Why positivity STOPS us being our best selves
- How some of those unwanted moments in our lives can help take the mask off
- How to break free of positivity into something more powerful and sustainable and real
Sometimes we need to stop smiling to truly lighten up.
